I believe that I downloaded Twitter when I was a freshman and high school and, while I certainly have gone through many phases of using and then not, I still use it today. I strictly followed my friends and family when I first downloaded it, but as time went on, I discovered a new way to use it… To follow random comedy accounts! I find these extremely beneficial because they make me laugh like crazy and my primary use for Twitter is a positive form of entertainment so that works out well for me. Twitter will likely benefit me in the future if I am ever in a position that requires me to give statements or keep others up to date on my opinions.
According to Google the definition of the digital divide is, “the gulf between those who have ready access to computers and the Internet, and those who do not”. This could pose a few issues in the classroom once I am a teacher. For starters, if I am to utilize more advanced technology in the classroom there is the possibility that not all of my students will have access to it depending on their different backgrounds and resources. Additionally, as technology advances, I am sure that there will come a time in which my students are much more in the know in regard to new programs and devices than I am and that will likely pose difficulties as well. On the flip side, I look forward to seeing what new advancements are made in that realm and how they can be applied to increase learning.
In addition to the many new devices that are being created, new software is being developed as well. This software, in theory, should provide students with programs to use in their classes that will enable them to learn and create in a way that has never been seen before in the educational field. I learn about new software just about weekly and it always continues to blow me away. Similarly, though, I am still amazed by the usefulness of some programs that have been around for a while. My favorite example being Microsoft Word. I use this program just about daily in my classes and have been using it for probably a decade. Word, along with other Microsoft programs like Power Point, will most definitely by used by my future students when I am a teacher.
